Introduction

This special tour of Xian includes the famous Terracotta Warriors, a visit to the unique cave homes of Yaodong and then to an historic Tang Dynasty springs.  You'll start with exploring the 1000's of terracotta warriors and then go back 4500 years in time to visit the historic homes caved into hills and dug out of the earth and learn of these architectural marvels. At the Huaqing hot spring, you'll experience the healing waters that have relaxed emperors since the Tang Dynasty.

For most travelers, your guide will pick you up in the lobby of your downtown Xian hotel or other meeting point at 9:00AM. The timing and best route of sites sometimes depend on the conditions. The Museum of Terracotta Warriors and Horses

The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. It is a form of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210–209 BCE with the purpose of protecting the emperor in his afterlife.  The figures date from 300 BCE and were discovered in 1974 by local farmers.

Yaodong Cave Village

A yaodong or "house cave" is a particular form of earth shelter dwelling common in the Loess Plateau in China's north. They are generally carved out of a hillside or excavated horizontally from a central "sunken courtyard".  The earth that surrounds the indoor space serves as an effective insulator keeping the inside of the structure warm in cold seasons and cool in hot seasons. The history of yaodongs goes back centuries, and they continue to be used. In 2006, an estimated 40 million people in northern China lived in yaodongs. You'll explore this area, learn of its history and browse inside local homes. A unique experience.

 

Huaqing Hot Springs

Huaqing Hot Springs, are a complex of hot springs located at the northern foot of Mount Li, one of the three major peaks of the Qinling. The spring is based on geothermal heating and has a history over 3000 years. It served as the location for several palaces built during the Zhou, Qin, Tang and Han dynasties. You'll find relaxing waters and beautiful views here.
