This combination tour includes a trip to the ancient Xitang Water Town and back to Shanghai for popular sites. The picturesque Xitang has amazing waterways, bridges and unique ancient homes. It features unique sheltered corridors to walk along the canals.

Itinerary

As this is a private tour, you can choose your desired starting point and time when you book. For most travelers, your guide will pick you up in the lobby of your downtown Shanghai hotel or other meeting point at 8:30AM. The timing and best route of sites sometimes depend on the conditions. Our expert guides will discuss the best day with you when you meet.

Xitang Ancient Water Town

Xitang is a water town crisscrossed by nine rivers and stretches across eight sections, linked by old-fashioned stone bridges. Xitang also contains numerous antique residences and temples, such as the Temple of the Seven Masters. The town keeps a tranquil ambiance and scenic beauty. It is frequently depicted in Chinese landscape painting and was featured in the final sequences of the motion picture Mission: Impossible III.

Gondola Ride

It's the perfect way to experience how local residents traveled for hundreds of years and get an insight into the movement of people and goods that made this little town so prosperous.

Local Delicacy Tasting

Enjoy a range of local treats such as as sticky rice dumplings (zong zi) and steamed pork wrapped in bamboo leaves (zha rou) as well as traditional Chinese candies.

Oriental Pearl TV Tower

This iconic symbol of Shanghai, at 468 m (1,535 feet) high, was the tallest structure in China from 1994 to 2007. It is classified a AAAAA scenic area by the China National Tourism Administration. An observation deck is in the highest sphere with glass floor 360-degree view.

Shanghai Municipal History Museum

This museum focuses on a hundred years of Shanghai history, from the opening of the port in 1843 to the communist take-over in 1949. The collection currently has no permanent home, but part of the collection can be seen at the exhibition room at the base of the Oriental Pearl Tower.

Yuyuan Garden

This garden dates back to 1559 during the Ming Dynasty. A classic Chinese Garden rich in history, you'll see a wide range of halls, statues, rock structures, water features as well as the famous Grand Rockery and Exquisite Jade Rocks.

After your tour, your guide will drop you off at your starting point or desired ending location.

Note on YuYuan Garden:
Please note that YuYuan Garden is now closed on Mondays. If your tour is Monday, instead of visiting YuYuan Garden, we’ll include another historic site. You can choose from the Daoist City God Temple or Jade Buddha Temple, or you can choose to use your extra time to visit another site after discussing with our guide. We are always flexible and want to ensure you make the best use of your time with us. Thanks for understanding.
